About CounterWord
A word and character counter, built to be fast and get out of your way.
CounterWord is a small utility for one job: telling you, in real time, how long a piece of text is. Words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, estimated reading and speaking time, and how close you are to common limits like an SMS, an X post, or a search-engine meta description.
How the counting works
Word count splits your text on whitespace and counts the pieces. Character counts are measured two ways — with spaces and without — since some limits (like SMS) count every character and others are more often quoted without spaces. Sentence count looks for text ending in a period, question mark, or exclamation point. Paragraph count looks for blank lines. Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute, which is a commonly used average for adult silent reading; speaking time assumes about 130 words per minute, closer to a comfortable spoken pace.
None of this requires a server. Everything happens in your browser as you type, which is also why nothing you write here is uploaded, logged, or stored — refresh the page and it's gone.
Who this is for
Anyone who writes against a limit: students checking an assignment's word count, social media managers trimming a caption, copywriters fitting a meta description, or anyone who's ever pasted a message into a form and watched it get rejected for being too long.
